The
Galindo Barakaldo project will develop 400,000 m2 of land in the riverbanks
of the Barakaldo area under the European URBAN Program. The development
of this new area of metropolitan Bilbao will enable the opening of the
municipality of Barakaldo towards the river, creating residential, leisure
and business opportunities. The scheme is based in four key aspects:
A new road system with a central
avenue.
Green areas including a linear
park alongside the riverbank.
An extension of the residential
area of Barakaldo.
Pedestrian walkways.
The Urban Barakaldo project,
managed by the public company Bilbao Ría 2000, will consolidate
the revitalisation process of Metropolitan Bilbao reinforcing the role
of the river as the main axis of urban development.
